Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2012 Fay Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - Red Wine
Red Wine by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars from Napa Valley, California. The FAY vineyard is where the Stag's Leap Wine Cellars story began. Established by pioneering grape grower Nathan Fay in 1961, it was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what is now the Stags Leap District. At the time, conventional wisdommaintained that the area was too cold for Cabernet Sauvignon. But tasting Nathan Fay's homemade Cabernet in 1969 was a defining moment for the founder of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Here was land capable of producing a wine that could rival the best in theworld. Within a year an adjoining ranch, now known as S.L.V, was purchased. And, in 1986, the winery purchased Nathan Fay's vineyard and named it FAY in his honor. Elegant and inviting with a nose of violet, cinnamon, vanilla clove and boysenberry that brings to mind a slice of dark berry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The wine has a silky, velvety texture from the fine tannins and rich fruit core that allows the wineto flow over the midpalate and merge with the signature bright red cherry notes of the vineyard. While not bold in character, the 2012 FAY has great persistence and length, promising long life.

Category: grocery & gourmet food > wine beer & spirits > wine > red | Brand: Delectus | Merchant: Winetasting.com In 1979, the three original owners (Sacri, Craig and Sherwin) took the first few letters of their last names and created "Sacrashe" Vineyard. It is situated high above Auberge du Soleil in the eastern Rutherford appellation at 750-800 feet elevation. The vineyard is hidden behind groves of century old oaks and clusters of manzanita brush. The growing conditions are tough due to rocks and tufa (solidified volcanic ash) , limiting the vines' vigor and crop yields (1.8 tons per acre) , but offering explosive flavors and concentration. A vineyard manager's nightmare turns into a winemaker's dream, as the small berries are loaded with intense flavors and tannin, ultimately producing our most extravagant Cabernet. A potent nose loaded with mineral and graphite components, liquorice, vanilla, fresh rose petal, dark-roast coffee beans, creamy orange (ice cream) , and nutmeg. After a few minutes the nose comes full circle and focuses on the minerality again. The mouth is surprisingly gentle, the tannins are fully saturated, the structure is big, tall, and chewy. It is as complex as the nose, with a perfect balance and voluptuous mouth-feel, extremely long and lasting aftertaste. A wolf in sheep's clothing!

All of these vineyards were selected due to their ability to produce rich, intense wines full of varietal character. After 18 months of barrel aging, our winemaker selects specific lots to create the Reserve blend. These are the most intense, rich and well-structured lots, which will benefit from the total of 36 months of barrel aging. There is a very limited amount of the ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon each year.
